SleepSci helps people fall asleep and wake up easily, using breathing techniques and a library of relaxing sounds made for the purpose. I designed the UX and UI, drew the illustrations, created animations and defined the visual style of the app.
The core question was how to make a breathing exercise visible. I developed several visual systems for it: geometric forms that expand and contract with the rhythm of the breath, so you follow a shape instead of counting. Everything around them stays delicate and precise, fine lines on deep dark backgrounds with cool gradients, quiet enough for the minutes before sleep but never dull.
Grounded in sleep research, including the methods of neuroscientist Matthew Walker and breathing techniques from yoga. Created in cooperation with Sleep Sci.
